Club Registration
Club Registration
Thank you for your interest in registering your pride and joy with SAU NSW! We’re thrilled to join you on this journey. Through our affiliation with the Australian National Street Machine Association Inc. (ANSMA), SAU NSW offers club registration under Service NSW’s Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS) or Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS). Below, we outline the eligibility criteria, benefits, and application process.
Eligibility Criteria
Your vehicle must be at least 30 years old from its year of manufacture (day and month not considered). Additional requirements include:
Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS)
• Vehicle must be in original condition with no aftermarket modifications. Factory-installed period options, accessories, or safety items (e.g., seatbelts, turn indicators) are permitted.
• Requires a pink slip (safety inspection report) from an authorized mechanic.
Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS)
• Requires a blue slip (valid for 42 days) for initial inspection/registration. Subsequent years require a standard pink slip.
• Heavily modified vehicles may need a VSCCS compliance certificate. Older ECS certificates recorded on prior NSW registration papers are acceptable.
Benefits of Club Registration
Club registration offers significant cost savings:
• Renewal costs: Approximately $50, covering registration and CTP insurance.
• Initial registration: Around $100, including a one-off number plate fee (~$44).
• Additional fees:
• Pink or blue slip inspection costs (varies by mechanic)
• SAU NSW membership fee: varies depending on number of card holders and new or renewing membership
• ACMC administration fee: $30
Usage Conditions
Vehicles registered under either scheme have restricted use:
• Unlimited use for SAU NSW or ANSMA events, provided you notify the organization in advance via the club’s Day Book form. The Day Book, maintained by the club, records your attendance at approved club events and is separate from your vehicle’s records. To qualify for Day Book recording and be exempt from Log Book entries, you must travel directly from home to the event’s designated start point, participate in the club event, and return home from the event’s designated end point.
• Personal use is limited to 60 days per year, which must be recorded in the car’s Log Book, issued by Service NSW. The Log Book, specific to your vehicle, tracks non-club-related usage, and both it and the Certificate of Approved Operations must be carried at all times when driving.
• Attendance at SAU NSW club events does not require entries in the car’s Log Book, provided the travel adheres to the club’s Day Book conditions above.
